Phil Collenette completed a 1 year full time course at Merrist Wood Horticultural College in Surrey gaining a N.C.H. (Arboriculture) in 1992. He has subsequently worked in the arboriculture industry locally for 25 years as a qualified tree surgeon running his own tree company for the latter 15 of those years.
In June 2016 he sold the company to further his knowledge in arboriculture by studying in Essex with Tree Life Arboricultural Consultancy Ltd gaining a Level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture in September 2016 and a further Lantra Award in Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) which primarily focuses on the recognition of defects within hazardous trees, tree decay fungi and the legal responsibilities of the tree owner. Phil has also completed a BS5837 workshop course with regards to trees and development sites as part of CPD.
With such a vast knowledge in theory and practical experience within the field of arboriculture, Phil provides a realistic approach to trees within the local environment and believes that it is important to accommodate the needs of trees, their dependent species of fauna and flora and people wherever practical and that all too frequently inappropriate species selection at the initial planting stage is the source of the majority of conflicts of interest between trees and people. Arboriculture remains a relatively young science but thanks to ongoing research nationally and overseas, new insights are being discovered regularly with regards to tree physiology, biodiversity and the value that they provide for both public amenity and the natural world.
Phil is fully informed of current industry standards and present research within arboriculture which he applies in a professional, friendly and unbiased manner for a range of clients from the private land owner to architects and developers.
